We are pleased to offer a free yoga program ~ Yoga for MySelf ~ designed to address the specific needs and requirements of those individuals with Multiple Sclerosis. Class size is restricted in order to ensure that proper attention and supervision is given to each attendee, and exercises and postures are adapted when necessary.
Class approach will include:
- Adapted but traditional Hatha Yoga poses (asanas)
- Toning/balancing of muscle groups
- Exercises to increase proprioception, balance, proper posture
- Learning to recognize forms of stress/tension in the body
- Providing simple, safe yoga postures to implement daily, at home or work, with and without props such as a chair or blanket
- Focus on confidence and body-awareness (sitting, rising, stride/gait, stairs etc.)
Classes will meet in a facility appropriate for those with restricted mobility: Handicap accessible parking, no stairs, non-slip floors, and wheelchair accessible bathrooms. The instructor specializes in yoga therapy and has both a personal and medical awareness of MS as well as training in anatomy, kinesiology, and specialized bodywork for those with Multiple Sclerosis.
